Floral Care Guide

When I mention to people that I’m a florist, often they tell me they love having flowers in their home, but they wish they could make them last longer. Many people assume that the shelf life of your flowers can’t be extended- but they can! Flowers are for everyone, and every home!

Follow these simple steps to extend the life of your flowers and keep them looking fresh for longer:

1. Trim the Stems ✂️

- Cut 1-2 inches off the stems at an angle using sharp scissors.

- Re-trim every few days to keep flowers hydrated.

2. Use Clean Water 💧

- Fill a clean vase with fresh, room-temperature water.

- Change the water every 2 days to prevent bacteria buildup.

3. Remove Leaves Below Waterline 🍃

- Strip any leaves that would be submerged in water to prevent bacterial growth.

4. Add Flower Food 🌸

- Use the flower food packet provided, or make your own!

5. Keep Flowers Cool ❄️

- Avoid placing flowers in direct sunlight, near heating vents, or near fruits (they release ethylene gas and speed up wilting).

6. Mist for Extra Hydration 💧

- Lightly mist petals with water to keep them fresh, especially in dry environments.

7. Watch for Wilting 👀

- Remove any wilted flowers to prevent them from affecting the others.

All flowers are different, and lots have special steps for care.

🌹 Roses – Remove outer petals (guard petals) for a cleaner look. Keep stems submerged.

🌻 Sunflowers – Love sunlight! Change water daily to prevent cloudy water.

🌷 Tulips – Continue growing after being cut! Keep in shallow water to prevent drooping.

🌿 Eucalyptus & Greenery – Can last weeks with fresh water; mist occasionally for extra freshness.
